Student Organizer Program
Get Involved. Build Power. Shape the Future.
The Student Organizer Program is the Imperial County Democratic Party’s flexible, real-world opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in politics, organizing, and public life. Tell us what you're interested in and when you're free, and we’ll reach out with ways to plug in. Whether you're looking to try something new, build your skills, or just help out when you can, this program is a flexible way to make a difference.
Below are some of the common ways students get involved during and outside of election season — but this list isn’t everything. If you have an idea for a project or want to try something new, we’d love to hear it!
During Election Season
Get a front-row seat to how campaigns work. As a student organizer, you can join local efforts to elect Democrats and turn out voters by participating in activities like:
-
Door-to-door canvassing to talk with voters directly
-
Literature drops to share campaign materials in neighborhoods
-
Tabling at schools, markets, or events
-
Phone or text banking to remind people to vote
-
Poster-making, sign waving, and visibility events
-
Helping with campaign events and rallies
-
Creating campaign content for social media
Outside of Election Season
When there’s no election on the ballot, the work continues. Student organizers can get involved in efforts that strengthen our democracy and inform our communities, like:
-
Registering voters and helping peers stay updated
-
Attending local government meetings (like school board or city council)
-
Taking notes or summarizing key decisions
-
Giving public comment, if you're comfortable
-
Supporting community education efforts on issues like healthcare, climate, or education
-
Helping plan or promote Democratic events
-
Contributing to outreach, writing, or digital media
