• Tips to Writing a Letter to the Editor

  To submit a letter to the editor for publication in a local news paper:
  

  1. 200-350 or fewer words (varies per publication)
  2. In writer’s own words
  3. Free from libel
  4. In good taste
  5. In a timely manner
  6. By email preferred over fax or post office mail
  7. Many newspapers will not publish letters that are not exclusive to them. Do not broadcast your letter to multiple newspapers.

  Letters must include:

  1. Writer’s full name
  2. Address, city and zip code
  3. Daytime phone number for verification. Only name and city will be printed.
  4. Writer's email address

  They do not accept:

  1. Poetry, generally
  2. Consumer complaints
  3. Religious tracts
  4. Letters from writers outside their circulation area
  5. Letters with unverified facts or vulgarity
  6. Letters will be edited for clarity, grammar and length.
